You will also collaborate closely with manufacturing, construction, and operations teams to ensure the final product is efficient, reliable, and optimized for high-performance data center operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and optimize air handling and cooling systems for data centers, including HVAC components (rooftop exhaust fans on VFDs,) liquid cooling systems (chillers, CDUs, dry coolers), hot/cold water loops.
  • Program, configure, and optimize Schneider PLCs (EcoStruxure, Modicon) and other platforms to manage and automate cooling infrastructure, ensuring consistent and efficient heat load management.
  • Create detailed engineering designs and layouts for complex cooling systems, including piping, ducting, and equipment layout using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Perform thermal analysis, system simulations, and CFD modeling to validate cooling system designs, ensuring they can handle dynamic IT heat loads while optimizing power usage effectiveness (PUE).
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, construction personnel, and operations staff, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Provide on-site support for the commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of fans, VFDs, PLCs, sensors, chillers, CDUs, and other cooling systems.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance plans for the cooling and air-handling systems to maximize uptime in mission-critical environments.
  • Conduct performance testing to ensure HVAC and liquid cooling systems meet design specifications and performance targets.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to develop and execute plans for minimizing downtime during system upgrades and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, manuals, and training resources for system operators, maintenance personnel, and technical staff.
  • Manage projects from initial concept through design, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.

Desired Skills, Qualifications and Competencies include:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Master’s degree &/or Professional Engineering (PE) certification is highly regarded.
  • 0-5 years of experience in designing HVAC and cooling systems for mission-critical environments, such as data centers.
  • Proficiency with Schneider PLCs (EcoStruxure, Modicon) and other platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley).
  • Hands-on experience with liquid cooling systems (chillers, CDUs, dry coolers) and the management of hot/cold water loops in industrial or data center environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, ASHRAE standards, and cooling infrastructure tailored for IT heat load management.
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA, and integrating mechanical systems with data center operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in thermodynamic analysis, and fluid dynamics in data center or industrial settings preferred.
  • Experience with CFD simulations and thermal management of large-scale facilities is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams in construction/operations settings is desirable.
