Reporting to the General Manager Engineering, the site Electrical Engineer will support the electrical discipline efforts on present and future Site development, design, construction, commissioning and operations.
Reporting to the General Manager Engineering, the site Electrical Engineer will support the electrical discipline efforts on present and future Site development, design, construction, commissioning and operations.
Acting as the local engineering representative, collaborating with both Corporate and Canadian Operations functions you would be responsible for overseeing electrical implementation and improvements to our electrical facilities and data centers.
The Electrical Engineer will assist in taking the design of our data centers into the future while helping sustain reliable operations, through generation of ideas, communicating recommendations to senior management and driving implementation alongside facilities technicians.
Responsibilities
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the following as well as other job-related duties and/or projects as assigned.
Support project development efforts, attending required design meetings and working collaboratively with site and corporate staff and external engineering partners
Review and validate drawings and technical reports from external parties like consultants, equipment manufacturers, engineering firms or commissioning agents, acting as technical Owner’s representative
Supports and leads as required construction, installation and commissioning activities in the electrical space
Lead technically complex electrical engineering task for the site operations and maintenance team, seeing them through completion
Monitor system operations from an electrical perspective, making sure the site operates within allowed parameters and to the highest degree of reliability and utilization, maximizing value for the company
Develop as required technical documentation like for instance plans, checklist, specification, reports, procedures and standards that support the engineering function, from design to operations
In charge of site technical documentation like drawings or equipment manuals, ensuring its completeness, accuracy and availability for consultation
Performs detailed analysis and calculations to ensure reliable operations, determine present and future system capacity and real-time system limitations.
Define new equipment specifications and suitable spare parts program for electrical equipment
Provide second level of troubleshooting to site staff for system events
Act in quality of project manager when requested, making sure scope, cost and schedule are met
Suggest enhancements and corrective actions and lead them to completion
Coach and provide feedback to site staff on electrical matters
Desired Qualifications include:
Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with minimum 5 years of related experience
Broad experience preferably in operations and maintenance of high voltage substations and medium voltage distribution in an electrical utility or heavy industrial setup
Knowledge of Protection and Control systems as applied to high voltage substation and apparatus, like transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, etc.
Troubleshooting abilities, able to read electrical control diagrams and schematics
Able to perform root cause analysis or in-depth technical investigations
Keen to work with boots on the ground when needed, side by side with trades, supervisors or other technical personnel
Good leadership skills and interpersonal relations in order to lead by influencing
Experience in problem solving and critical thinking in a fast-paced growth environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to cater to different audiences with diverse backgrounds, from junior staff to senior leadership
Self-driven individual, with attention to detail and ability to execute high-quality work with limited direction
Ability to deal comfortably with uncertainty and limited resources or information
Flexible to attend site and assist as necessary outside of normal business hours in case of key project activities or system events
Proficiency on technical software tools required to perform electrical engineering tasks
